Anime — entry 001 of 15
AniDB
AniDB's HTTP API returns anime and character metadata as plain XML over a bare, unencrypted endpoint at api.anidb.net:9001/httpapi — a live request with a placeholder client/clientver pair confirmed the server is up and rejects unregistered clients with a descriptive XML error rather than failing outright. Every caller must register a client id and version string on the wiki first, then cache aggressively, since repeat requests for the same data in one day risk a ban. It's entirely free and community-run, with no paid tier.
