India's national Open Government Data (OGD) platform catalogues thousands of datasets from central and state agencies, most exposed through a REST API gated by a free, self-registered key (api.data.gov.in) rather than open to the public. Responses can be requested as JSON, XML, or CSV via a simple format parameter, and most API-enabled datasets ship with interactive Swagger reference pages on the portal itself. The API layer sends no CORS headers on a live probe, so it can only be called server-side, not directly from browser JavaScript.
