A free, Hipo-sponsored hosted API in front of the open-source "University Domains and Names" dataset, letting you search universities by name or country and get back their web pages and email domains — handy for validating that a signup email belongs to a real academic institution. Reads are keyless and CORS-open, but the hosted host only actually serves plain HTTP: a live HTTPS probe fails to establish a TLS connection at all (the CONNECT tunnel itself returns a 502), so the stored https flag was corrected.
