WMATA's developer portal runs on Microsoft Azure API Management, and despite the marketing language, access is gated by a free subscription key rather than an OAuth flow — requests carry the key as an api_key header or query parameter against api.wmata.com, and requests without one are rejected by the APIM gateway before reaching the backend. All rail and bus data (positions, predictions, incidents, station info) is free after registering for the default tier.
